About Bytedesk

Bytedesk is an open-source platform that merges internal team instant messaging with omnichannel customer service. The project positions itself as an alternative to Slack combined with help desk products such as Zendesk, Intercom and HubSpot, and adds AI agents on top.

The feature set covers team IM with organizational structure, roles and permissions; customer service across multiple channels with routing strategies and an agent workbench; a knowledge base with internal docs, help center and FAQ; and ticket management with SLA tracking and reports. AI agents can chat through models such as Ollama, DeepSeek and ZhipuAI, answer from the knowledge base using retrieval, call functions and use MCP. Voice of customer tools, a FreeSwitch-based call center, WebRTC video service and REST APIs with SDKs are also included.

It is written in Java and released under the AGPL-3.0 licence. The quick start uses Docker Compose, which brings up supporting services including Redis, Elasticsearch, MySQL and Artemis alongside the application.
