About Lukija

Lukija teaches Finnish through texts you actually want to read. You choose a free Finnish classic, paste an article or link, save a page with a Chrome extension or turn a YouTube video into a lesson, and the app cleans the text, shows a short English summary with an estimated level and length, and lets you tap any word to see its meaning and grammar in that sentence, for example how an inflected form breaks down. Pronunciation and page audio are included.

Videos play with a synchronized transcript, and sources include Yle news and Wikipedia. After a page you answer a three-question check and review saved words, while a reading streak, new words learned and a learning activity view track progress. The idea is to keep the content that made you curious while removing the friction of looking up inflected words and compounds.

Lukija is a hosted service with a one-time price of 49 euros and no subscription. The site has how-it-works, sources, pricing and guides pages, and it describes how a saved page becomes a lesson with clean text, a level estimate and audio.
