About Codebook
Codebook is a password manager and data vault from Zetetic, the company behind the SQLCipher encrypted database engine. It stores passwords, financial details and other secrets, and fills logins through system autofill on Android, iOS and macOS or a global keyboard shortcut on macOS and Windows.
Data is encrypted with the open-source SQLCipher engine using AES-256-CBC with HMAC-SHA512 to guard against tampering, and keys are derived with 256,000 rounds of PBKDF2. An optional Codebook Cloud subscription provides automatic sync and secure sharing across devices, and the vendor says it has been securing data for more than 25 years. A flexible data model lets users organize different record types.
Codebook is proprietary software, though the encryption layer is open source. It is free for personal use. Codebook Cloud sync can be tried before paying and its subscription starts at $5 per month; a business edition is also listed.
