Vellum

Vellum is a macOS application for formatting books. Authors import a manuscript, and Vellum builds the front and back matter such as a title page and table of contents, applies a design style to every chapter and generates files ready for ebook stores and print.

For ebooks it creates files for Kindle, Kobo, Apple Books and other stores, with validated EPUB output, image optimization and compression, accessible output, and advance reader copies in EPUB and MOBI. For print it lets authors choose a trim size, then sets margins, page numbers, headers and footers, and handles widow control and spread balancing for paperback or hardcover. Series can be combined into box sets.

Vellum is a commercial app available only for Mac, and it requires a recent version of macOS. Authors can download it from the website. Preview tools show how the book will look on different devices and in print.
