Nue

Nue is a web development environment that follows a UNIX-style philosophy of small, focused tools. It is positioned as a lightweight way to build modern websites, with a stack of parts including Nuekit, a standards-first framework, Nuedom for HTML-first UI assembly, Nuestate for URL-first state, Nuemark for content, Nueserver for edge servers and Nueglow for syntax highlighting.

The development server serves files directly, offers hot module replacement and works for single-page apps and SVG development with minimal configuration. The static site generator adds extended Markdown, a layout module system, dynamic islands, view transitions, content collections, and RSS feeds and sitemaps. The application builder transpiles TypeScript, optimizes JavaScript and CSS, supports API routing and offers Cloudflare compatibility.

Nue is written in JavaScript and licensed under MIT. The project describes its whole ecosystem as very small compared with typical toolchains, and version 2.0 has been announced, with 3.0 planned to bring multi-site development. It suits front-end developers and designers who prefer HTML, CSS and Markdown over heavy JavaScript frameworks.
