Nightingale

Nightingale is an open-source monitoring project whose strength is alerting. Like Grafana it connects to existing data sources, but where Grafana emphasizes visualization, Nightingale puts more weight on the alert engine and on processing and distributing alarms. It was first developed and open-sourced by DiDi and later donated to the China Computer Federation's open source committee.

Teams that already collect metrics and logs connect storage such as VictoriaMetrics, Prometheus or Elasticsearch as data sources, then configure alert rules and notification rules in Nightingale. It does not collect data itself; the recommended collector is Categraf, which gathers data from operating systems, network devices, middleware and databases and pushes it to Nightingale via the Prometheus Remote Write protocol.

The server also ships an MCP endpoint at /mcp, so AI assistants can handle alerts and explore monitoring data using plain-language requests, with no extra process to run. Nightingale is written in Go and licensed under Apache-2.0, and you deploy it yourself. It suits operations teams that want a dedicated alerting layer on top of an existing monitoring stack.
