About Monica Pass

Monica is a local-first password vault for Android. It aggregates the Bitwarden and KeePass ecosystems in one app, storing logins, bank cards, identity information, private notes and sensitive attachments in an encrypted local vault, so users who keep data in both formats can manage it together. The README and site are primarily in Chinese with several other languages offered.

The Android app includes Bitwarden API and sync capabilities, reading and writing of KeePass .kdbx files, search by title, domain or tag, biometric unlock, and a built-in TOTP generator for two-factor codes. Optional sync and backup use your own WebDAV server. The project is also developing MDBX, a local-first encrypted vault format with nested folders, attachments, commit history, conflict detection and snapshot recovery. It uses Jetpack Compose, Room, Koin and the Android Keystore.

Monica is licensed under GPL-3.0. The Windows and Wear versions are archived or not kept up to date, the browser extension is being rewritten, and the maintainer says the main focus is the Android app. A known limitation is that passkey creation fails on some Xiaomi HyperOS devices. It suits Android users who want a self-managed vault rather than a cloud service.
