About Carbonite

Carbonite is a cloud backup service that automatically copies the files on a computer to an encrypted online store so they can be recovered after a failure, virus or other loss. It is sold to individuals and to small businesses and is now part of OpenText.

The personal Basic, Plus and Prime plans offer unlimited encrypted backup storage with one-click file restoration, and higher plans add a computer plus an external drive, antivirus from Webroot and optional courier delivery of recovered files for an extra fee. Professional solutions address compliance needs such as HIPAA, FERPA and GLBA, backup for servers and managed backup policies.

Carbonite is proprietary and delivered as a hosted service. During a promotion its homepage showed Basic at $6.40 per month, Plus at $7.15 and Prime at $8.77, billed annually, and a 30-day money-back guarantee is advertised for new customers.
