Scheduling Software for Construction in 2026: Gantt Charts, Crew Calendars and Job Scheduling

Scheduling software for construction compared: JobTread, Buildertrend, Fieldwire, TeamGantt and open-source OpenProject, for Gantt phases, crews and jobsites.

By , founder of NQM Studio LTDUpdated 10 min read

Scheduling software for construction splits into three jobs: sequencing phases on a Gantt chart, assigning crews and subs to jobs on a calendar, and coordinating tasks on the jobsite itself. Builders and remodelers will find JobTread and Buildertrend, which put scheduling inside an estimating and job-costing suite. Fieldwire covers jobsite tasks and manpower, and TeamGantt and the open-source OpenProject cover pure Gantt planning.

This guide is organized by those jobs, so contractors can skip to the one that matches how they work. It covers general contractors, remodelers and trades crews, and it says where a tool is built for another country or for one-person businesses.

Live data from Enlisted: GitHub stats sync daily; pricing comes from each vendor's pricing page. “Vendor edition” means closed source, with a version the vendor lets you run on your own servers.

How we picked scheduling software for construction

Enlisted kept tools whose own pages connect them to construction, contractors or trades, and tools whose core job is Gantt scheduling that vendors present for construction work. The directory records licence, self-hosting and pricing model for each, and the live table and cards show them. The scheduling claims come from vendors' own pages, and Enlisted has not tested these products. See how Enlisted ranks tools. For wider planning tools, see the project management category and the scheduling category.

Which kind of construction scheduling do you need?

Phase scheduling shows the order of work and what depends on what, so a delay in one trade moves the next. Crew scheduling decides who is on which job on which day. Jobsite coordination turns the schedule into tasks, punch lists and daily logs that people close out in the field. Construction suites cover all three at once, and standalone tools usually cover one. Decide which you are missing before you pay for the rest.

Best for builders and remodelers who want scheduling inside a job suite

JobTread: best for scheduling alongside estimating and job costing

JobTread is construction management software for contractors that combines estimating, scheduling and project management in one product. For scheduling, JobTread's site describes calendar, Gantt and list views, a company-wide Gantt that shows every job's schedule at once, and tasks assigned to team members with color-coded task types. It can also generate purchase orders and work orders for suppliers and subcontractors, and it offers portals for customers, vendors and subcontractors.

It is aimed at home builders, remodelers, pool builders, roofers and specialty and commercial contractors, and the catalogue lists daily logs, time tracking, change orders and job costing alongside the schedule. See the JobTread page.

  • Best for: residential and specialty contractors who want estimate, schedule and budget in one place.
  • Watch out for: it is a paid, hosted suite with a single plan and a charge for each extra internal user, and there is a money-back guarantee rather than a free trial.

Buildertrend: best for home builders sharing schedules with subs and clients

Buildertrend is cloud construction management software for home builders and remodelers that runs a project from estimate to completion. Its scheduling pages describe Gantt, agenda and calendar views, with a Gantt where linked items and dependencies move together when a date shifts. Schedules can be shared with subcontractors and clients through portals, by item or phase, and items can be assigned to team members or subs.

The catalogue entry covers only the basics, so read the vendor's site for current features and plans. The Buildertrend page has the listing.

  • Best for: residential builders and remodelers who need clients and subs to see the schedule.
  • Watch out for: it is paid only, with no free plan, and the catalogue lists no published prices.

BuildLedger: best for Australian builders and trades

BuildLedger is a construction management platform built in Australia for builders and trades such as renovators, electricians, plumbers and carpenters. Scheduling with Gantt charts sits alongside estimating and quoting, subcontractor management, purchase orders, live job costing and a client portal. Two-way sync with Xero and MYOB keeps the accounting records aligned, and AI invoice capture pulls supplier invoices from Gmail and Outlook.

If you work in France, Mudur.OS is a French-language option with team planning, site instructions and hours and photos attached to each site. See the BuildLedger page and the Mudur.OS page.

  • Best for: Australian builders who use Xero or MYOB and want scheduling tied to job costing.
  • Watch out for: it is built for Australian businesses, with a free trial but no free plan.

Best for jobsite tasks and larger general contractors

Fieldwire: best for jobsite tasks, drawings and manpower on a Gantt

Fieldwire is a jobsite management app, now part of Hilti, that tracks tasks, plans, punch lists, inspections and field reports. Its scheduling pages describe Kanban, Gantt and calendar views, and a Gantt view with manpower so teams can capture expected and actual task duration and sequence trades by available labor. It can also import tasks from a spreadsheet, and the vendor describes dragging tasks into a schedule for foremen's meetings.

It has a free Basic plan for small teams, with paid plans per user. See the Fieldwire page.

  • Best for: field teams and subcontractors who plan work around tasks, drawings and manpower.
  • Watch out for: it centers on the jobsite, so estimating and job costing are limited to what its project-management features cover.

Procore: best for larger general contractors and owners

Procore is a construction management platform that connects jobsite and office across preconstruction to closeout, with workflows for project management, quality, safety and financials. Its schedule tool, per the vendor's pages, offers an interactive Gantt that you can switch to a list view, plus look-ahead schedules that give field teams a window into the master schedule. The vendor serves main contractors, owners and subcontractors.

Pricing is by annual contract sized to construction volume, with unlimited users and no listed prices. Other tools here connect to it, for example TeamGantt lists a Procore integration. See the Procore page.

  • Best for: general contractors who want scheduling inside one platform for the whole project.
  • Watch out for: quote-based pricing and a platform scope that is large for a small remodeling business.

At the enterprise end, Oracle Primavera P6 is described as scheduling software for large, complex projects, particularly in construction and engineering, and Microsoft Project offers Gantt charts and resource planning in cloud and self-managed editions. Primavera P6 is sold by quote and Microsoft Project is a paid product, and both are aimed at complex, multi-project planning rather than a crew calendar.

Best for Gantt-chart phase planning

TeamGantt: best standalone Gantt tool with a free personal plan

TeamGantt is online Gantt chart software for planning projects, managing dependencies and scheduling workloads, and its listed use cases include construction project scheduling. It adds resource and workload management, an AI Gantt chart maker, a template hub, and integrations including Procore, Slack, Trello and Microsoft Project. Pricing is flat rather than per seat.

It has a free personal plan and a free trial of paid plans. See the TeamGantt page.

  • Best for: a contractor who needs a clear, shareable schedule without a full construction suite.
  • Watch out for: it plans the schedule only, with no estimating, job costing or field forms.

GanttPRO: best per-user Gantt planner with workload views

GanttPRO is an online Gantt chart tool with resource and workload management, templates, and an AI Gantt maker. Its team pages cover construction, manufacturing, IT, consulting and other industries. Plans step from Core, with Gantt charts and a calendar, through Advanced and Business, which adds workload, portfolio, time and budget management, to Enterprise with SAML single sign-on.

It is priced per user with a free trial and no free plan. See the GanttPRO page.

  • Best for: project managers who want workload and budget views next to the Gantt chart.
  • Watch out for: per-user pricing adds up for large crews, and it is hosted only.

OpenProject: best open-source option with a team planner and a BIM edition

OpenProject is open-source project management software, licensed GPL-3.0, with Gantt charts, a team planner, time and cost reporting and agile boards. Its site describes a Team Planner for assigning tasks to people in a weekly or two-week calendar, which is a crew-style view. It also describes a BIM edition with an IFC 3D model viewer and BCF issue management for building projects.

You can self-host it or use the vendor's hosted plans, and the Community edition is free, with paid plans adding features. See the OpenProject page.

  • Best for: contractors and design-build teams that want self-hosted control and Gantt plus team planning.
  • Watch out for: it has no estimating or job costing, and self-hosting means you run the server.

GanttProject: best free desktop Gantt for one planner

GanttProject is a free, open-source desktop app for planning with Gantt and PERT charts, task dependencies, milestones, baselines and a resource load chart. It exports to PDF, HTML and PNG and works with Microsoft Project and Excel files. Collaboration runs through WebDAV or a separate commercial service called GanttProject Cloud.

It is licensed GPL-3.0. See the GanttProject page.

  • Best for: a single planner who wants a free schedule file to print or share.
  • Watch out for: it is a desktop app, so team editing is limited unless you set up sharing, and it has no jobsite or crew features.

Redmine is another open-source option with a Gantt chart and calendar, issue tracking and role-based access, though it is a general project tracker.

Best for crew calendars and dispatching jobs

Connecteam: best for crews that need schedules, time clock and chat on phones

Connecteam is a mobile app for deskless teams, and its listed audiences include construction and field service crews. It combines a scheduler, time clock, forms and checklists, tasks and team chat. The vendor describes building schedules from templates or with drag and drop, and assigning by location, qualifications or preferences.

It has a free plan for small teams, and paid plans are priced by module. See the Connecteam page.

  • Best for: crews that need a shared schedule and time clock on their phones more than a Gantt chart.
  • Watch out for: it does not handle estimating or phase dependencies, so pair it with a Gantt tool for large builds.

Housecall Pro: best for remodelers and trades who dispatch from a calendar

Housecall Pro is field service software for home service businesses, including remodeling contractors and trades such as HVAC, plumbing and electrical. Its scheduling pages describe a drag-and-drop calendar color-coded by crew, area or job type, with rescheduling and reassigning by dragging, live vehicle tracking, and notifications when jobs change. It also covers quotes, invoices and payments.

It is built for service calls and short jobs, not multi-phase builds with dependencies. The field service scheduling guide compares the dispatch tools. See the Housecall Pro page.

  • Best for: remodelers and trades businesses that book many short jobs and dispatch crews daily.
  • Watch out for: no Gantt-style phase planning is described, and it has no free plan beyond a trial.

SoloDesks: best for a solo tradesperson who needs a job calendar

SoloDesks is a hosted job-management tool for tradespeople who work alone, with quotes, invoices and a job calendar that lists each day's jobs and addresses. It runs in a phone browser, and a free start limits the number of quotes and invoices each month while jobs and clients are unlimited. The vendor says it does not support teams.

See the SoloDesks page.

  • Best for: a sole trader such as a painter or carpenter who wants quoting and a calendar in one app.
  • Watch out for: it is built for one person, with no crews or dispatch.

What to check before you choose

  • The schedule model. Decide whether you need dependent phases on a Gantt chart, a crew calendar, or both. JobTread and Buildertrend include several views, Fieldwire adds manpower to its Gantt, and Connecteam and Housecall Pro focus on crews and visits.
  • Who needs to see it. Buildertrend describes portals for subs and clients, and JobTread describes portals for customers, vendors and subcontractors. If your subs will not log in, a printable export from TeamGantt or GanttProject may matter more.
  • What else you would pay for. A suite adds estimating and job costing you may not use, and a standalone Gantt tool adds nothing but the schedule. Match the product to the gap in your current process, and see the construction project management guide for the wider tools.
  • Where you work. BuildLedger is built for Australian businesses with Xero and MYOB sync, and Mudur.OS is French-language, so a tool made for another country may not fit your accounting.

Which scheduling software should a contractor choose?

  • Residential builder or remodeler: JobTread or Buildertrend.
  • Jobsite coordination and manpower: Fieldwire.
  • Large general contractor: Procore, or Primavera P6 for an enterprise planner.
  • Only a clear Gantt schedule: TeamGantt or GanttPRO, or OpenProject and GanttProject if you want open source.
  • Crews booked day to day: Connecteam or Housecall Pro.
  • A one-person trade business: SoloDesks.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best scheduling software for construction?
It depends on the job. JobTread and Buildertrend schedule residential builds and remodels alongside estimating and job costing, Fieldwire suits jobsite task and manpower scheduling, TeamGantt and GanttPRO are dedicated Gantt tools, and Procore serves larger general contractors. Pick by whether you need phase planning, crew calendars or both.
Is there free construction scheduling software?
Yes. Fieldwire has a free plan for small teams, TeamGantt has a free personal plan, and OpenProject and GanttProject are open source and free to use, with OpenProject offering a paid hosted option. Connecteam also has a free plan for small teams. Free plans limit users or features, so check them against your crew size.
What is the difference between construction scheduling and field service scheduling?
Construction scheduling plans phases, dependencies and sub-trades over weeks or months, usually on a Gantt chart. Field service scheduling dispatches technicians to individual jobs and appointments each day. Housecall Pro and ServiceTitan are built for the second model, while JobTread, Buildertrend and Fieldwire are built for the first.
Do I need Gantt chart software for a small construction business?
Only if your jobs have dependent phases, such as framing before roofing, and several people or subs who need to see the sequence. Many small contractors manage with a crew calendar and task lists. JobTread and Buildertrend include Gantt views inside construction suites, and TeamGantt and GanttPRO are standalone tools.
Is there open-source scheduling software for construction?
OpenProject and GanttProject are open-source Gantt tools, and Redmine is an open-source project tracker with a Gantt chart and calendar. OpenProject's site describes a BIM edition with an IFC model viewer. None includes estimating or job costing, so pair them with your accounting tools.
