About typepiano
TypePiano is a browser tool for learning to read the staff, with a Chinese interface and an English option. You see a note, press the matching key on your computer keyboard, phone touch screen or MIDI keyboard, and get immediate sound and visual feedback, with correct answers highlighted. It works like typing practice for notes, building the link between a note's position and a key response so you rely less on counting up from middle C.
There are three paths: endless random-note practice to speed up reaction, song challenges that unlock phrase by phrase using familiar melodies such as Ode to Joy and Fur Elise, and an introductory staff tutorial. The advice for beginners is to start with the treble clef near middle C for ten minutes a day, then add the bass clef, custom ranges and full songs. Statistics track accuracy, speed and streaks.
The creator, an adult self-taught pianist, says the tool came from struggling with sight-reading. The site includes tools, tutorials, a FAQ, a feedback page and a pricing page, and it runs in the browser.
