About Spacedrive

Spacedrive is an open-source, cross-platform file manager built on a virtual distributed filesystem written in Rust. It presents files from all your devices and cloud accounts in one place, with apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. The project describes it as a cross-device data platform that indexes files, emails, notes and external sources.

Every file gets a BLAKE3 content hash so identical files on different devices are recognized and redundancy can be tracked. Files on disconnected devices stay in the index and show as offline. Devices sync metadata directly using Iroh and QUIC, so there are no servers involved and files stay where they are. Cloud volumes can index S3, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Azure and GCS alongside local storage.

The README says Spacedrive is not a replacement for Finder or Explorer but sits above them, adding search across disks, NAS and cloud storage, content identity and rich metadata. It has nine views and a quick preview for video, audio, code, documents, 3D and images, and describes built-in screening to keep AI agents safe. Everything runs locally unless you sync between your own devices.
