About release-plz
release-plz automates releasing Rust packages. It reads your git history, follows Conventional Commits and checks for API breaking changes, then opens and keeps updated a release pull request that bumps versions in Cargo.toml and updates the changelog, so the release process becomes reviewing and merging a single PR.
When the release PR is merged, or when you edit versions yourself, release-plz creates a git tag, publishes the crate with cargo publish to crates.io or another cargo registry, and creates a release on GitHub, Gitea or GitLab. Changelogs are generated with git-cliff, and semver checks use cargo-semver-checks. Unlike release-please, which looks at git tags, it compares local packages with the versions published in the registry.
It runs either as a GitHub Action in CI or as a command-line tool from a terminal or other CI systems. The tool is written in Rust, licensed under Apache-2.0 and designed to need little or no configuration. It suits Rust maintainers who release often, especially those managing several crates in a workspace.
