About Release Changelog Builder Action

Release Changelog Builder Action is a GitHub Action that builds release notes or a changelog automatically when you tag a release. It reads the pull requests merged between two tags and assembles them into a formatted summary that can be used as the body of the release.

Pull requests are sorted into sections by their labels, with one pull request able to appear in several sections or none. Output is shaped by templates with placeholders for the overall changelog, each pull request and each commit, and a label extractor can derive Conventional Commit types from titles with a regex. A commit mode produces the same changelog for repositories that do not use pull requests, and Gitea is supported as well as GitHub.

Only the pull requests between the two tags are fetched, which keeps it fast on repositories with many tags. The action exposes outputs such as the changelog, categorized entries, contributors and commits, supports monorepo configuration and is licensed under Apache-2.0. It runs as a step in your workflow.
