About Mapillary

Mapillary is a platform for street-level imagery and the map data derived from it. Contributors capture photos with almost any kind of camera, upload them, and the result is a collaborative street-level view of the world that others can browse. The company says it holds billions of images, which are used to keep maps up to date and to fill in places that aerial pictures cannot show.

Computer vision is used to extract map features such as traffic signs from the imagery, so mapmakers can update maps faster and with less manual effort. Contributors upload through Android and iOS apps, a desktop uploader or a command line uploader, and a web explorer lets anyone browse the coverage. For developers there are Mapillary JS, image datasets and OpenSfM, and there is an ArcGIS integration for GIS teams. Mapillary is part of Meta and works with OpenStreetMap and HERE map creator workflows.
