About GarageBand

GarageBand is Apple's entry-level music studio for Mac, iPhone and iPad, offered at no cost. It is designed so beginners can learn, play, record, mix and share music, including people who have never played an instrument.

It includes a sound library of instruments, presets for guitar and voice, and virtual session drummers and percussionists. Users can plug in a guitar or microphone and choose from a range of amps and effects, connect a USB keyboard to play virtual instruments, and build songs from loops in genres such as EDM, hip hop and indie.

Because it is part of the Apple ecosystem, GarageBand suits students, hobbyists and songwriters on Apple devices who want a simple place to sketch ideas. Those who outgrow it often move to Logic Pro or another full DAW.
