Playnite is an open-source video game library manager and launcher that gathers games from third-party libraries such as Steam, Epic, GOG, EA App and Battle.net into one interface. It also supports game emulation, so emulated titles can sit beside installed PC games. It is written in C# with WPF, is released under the MIT license, and requires Windows 10 or 11.

A privacy statement says Playnite itself does not store user information and that all library data is kept locally on your PC. Account connections are handled by library plugins, usually through the official login forms of each service, with only web session cookies or tokens stored, the same as logging in via a browser.

It can be extended with plugins written in .NET languages, PowerShell scripts and user interface themes, with an extensions portal for developers. Installers and a portable package are offered, the app notifies you when updates are released, and translations are managed on Crowdin. Community help is on Discord and Reddit, and development can be supported on Patreon.

Key features

  • Unified library for Steam, Epic, GOG and more
  • Game emulation support
  • Plugins, scripts and themes
  • Local storage of all library data
  • Installer and portable package
  • Automatic update notifications

Pricing: Free and open source under the MIT license; the lead developer accepts support on Patreon.

Heroic Games Launcher is an open-source launcher for Linux, Windows and macOS. It lets you sign in with existing Epic Games, GOG or Amazon accounts and manage the games you already own, serving as a lighter option than the official store launchers. Epic titles use Legendary, GOG uses a custom gogdl implementation and Amazon Games uses Nile.

You can install, uninstall, update, repair and move games, import games that are already installed, and add games from outside the supported stores. On Linux, titles run through Wine or Proton and custom versions can be downloaded; on macOS, Crossover is supported. The app also shows ProtonDB and Steam Deck compatibility information, syncs cloud saves, provides a download queue and theming, and lets you create categories for organizing a collection.

Heroic is built with web technologies on Electron and TypeScript, and it is released under GPL-3.0. Packages exist for Flatpak, Debian and Ubuntu, Arch through the AUR, Fedora and Nix, plus AppImage and tarballs. Planned work includes support for other stores such as IndieGala.

  • Epic, GOG and Amazon Games library access
  • Install, update, repair and move games
  • Wine and Proton management on Linux
  • ProtonDB and Steam Deck compatibility info
  • Cloud save syncing

Lutris is an open-source gaming platform for Linux. It installs and launches games so you can start playing without the work of configuring each title yourself, and it brings libraries from stores such as GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store and Humble Bundle into a single client.

The project describes itself as a video game preservation platform that aims to keep a game collection running for years to come. It provides the emulators, compatibility layers and game engine re-implementations needed to run games across different hardware and software generations, built only on open-source technology and taking advantage of Linux and Vulkan. It can serve as the foundation for a dedicated open-source game console built on PC hardware.

Lutris is written in Python and released under the GPL-3.0 license. The website offers downloads, a catalog of games with install scripts, forums, a Discord server and donation options. It is aimed at Linux desktop and living-room gamers who want a single launcher for old and new titles.
