About Photofield

Photofield is a self-hosted photo gallery distributed as a single binary, built to display very large numbers of photos at once and to do so quickly. The project's goal is to be as fast as Google Photos on ordinary hardware while showing more pictures at the same time. It is non-invasive, meaning it can run on its own or alongside other photo gallery software without taking over your files.

The interface is seamlessly zoomable and loads progressively from low-resolution previews to full quality. Collections can be shown in different layouts. Optional features include semantic search through the photofield-ai companion, so you can search for photo contents with phrases like a beach sunset, plus alpha-stage tagging and face detection. Reverse geolocation uses an embedded local database, so no external service is needed.

Photofield is written in Go with a Vue 3 front end and is licensed under MIT. The documentation covers quick start, configuration, usage, maintenance and development setup, and a demo is available online. It is a good fit for people who keep large photo libraries on their own servers.
