About GeoDa

GeoDa is a free and open source software tool that serves as an introduction to spatial data science. It is designed to facilitate new insights from data analysis by exploring and modeling spatial patterns. The program provides a user-friendly and graphical interface to methods of exploratory spatial data analysis (ESDA), such as spatial autocorrelation statistics for aggregate data and basic spatial regression analysis for point and polygon data.

Key features

  • Supports spatial autocorrelation statistics for aggregate data (several thousand records)
  • Supports basic spatial regression analysis for point and polygon data (tens of thousands of records)
  • Includes multi-layer support and several new local cluster features (univariate and multivariate local Geary cluster maps, redcap
  • Implements non-spatial cluster techniques (principal component analysis, k-means, hierarchical clustering, HDBScan)
  • Supports vector data formats: shapefiles, geodatabases, GeoJSON, MapInfo, GML, KML, and others via GDAL library
  • Converts coordinates in table format (.csv, .dbf, .xls, .ods) to spatial data formats and converts between file formats

Good fit for

  • Exploratory spatial data analysis
  • Spatial regression analysis
  • Spatial clustering and pattern detection
