About Genius

Genius is a website that collects song lyrics and lets contributors annotate them, line by line, with explanations of meaning, references and context. Its tagline describes the site as lyrics and knowledge about music.

Beyond lyrics, the site publishes music news, charts of popular songs, albums and artists filtered by genre and time period, and original video series. Artists can apply to get verified and use promotion options, and general reading is available without an account. It is a hosted consumer service with no self-hosted version, and the vendor publishes details of its paid promotion options separately.
