About Beets
Beets is a media library management system for music collectors who care about accurate metadata. It catalogs a music collection and improves its tags automatically using the MusicBrainz database, then provides tools for manipulating and accessing the library. It is written in Python, used from the command line, and released under the MIT license.
Because beets is designed as a library, plugins extend it widely. They can fetch or calculate album art, lyrics, genres, tempos, ReplayGain levels and acoustic fingerprints, pull metadata from MusicBrainz, Discogs or Beatport, and guess tags from file names or fingerprints. Other plugins transcode audio, check for duplicate tracks and albums, find albums with missing tracks, and offer a web interface for browsing and playing the library.
Installation is done with pip, followed by a Getting Started guide. Writing a custom plugin is described as simple for anyone who knows a little Python. The project has documentation, an FAQ, a bug tracker, a discussion board and a blog, and accepts donations.
