Day One: features, pricing and alternatives

About Day One

Day One is a journaling app for capturing daily entries in a private digital space. Entries can include text as well as photos, videos, drawings and audio recordings, and features such as On This Day bring back moments from earlier years.

Privacy is a central selling point: journals can be locked with passcodes or biometrics, encrypted end to end and backed up automatically, and data can be exported at any time. Day One runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Android, and a journal can be opened from any web browser.

Day One is free to use, with a paid Gold plan that adds more, as described on its plans page. It is a hosted sync service rather than something you run on your own servers, and it suits people who want a long-term personal journal with media and encryption.
