About NanoClaw

NanoClaw is a small, open-source personal AI assistant that runs its agents securely inside separate containers. It is presented as a lightweight alternative to OpenClaw, and its author explains the motivation: a large, complex agent with full access to your life is hard to trust when you cannot understand all of its code.

The project contrasts itself with a codebase of hundreds of thousands of lines, dozens of config files and many dependencies that relies on application-level controls such as allowlists and pairing codes. NanoClaw instead aims to offer the same core functionality in a codebase small enough to read, with operating-system-level isolation through containers rather than a single shared Node process. Channels include WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord and Gmail, among other messaging apps, and it also keeps memory, runs scheduled jobs and builds on Anthropic's agent tooling.

On Slack, setup can provision a separate app for each agent, with its own bot identity, container and memory, and shared rooms and canvases. NanoClaw is MIT licensed and written in TypeScript, and it is meant to be customized by editing the code to fit your own needs.
