About Fiora
Fiora is an open-source chat application built with Node.js, MongoDB, Socket.io and React. It is aimed at people who want to run their own group chat or private messaging service, with a backend, web frontend and native Android and iOS apps all included in one project.
Users can register an account, join or create groups to communicate with others, chat privately and add friends, and send multiple message types including text, emoticons, pictures, code snippets, files and commands, with emoticon search built in. Push notifications alert users to new messages, with a customizable notification sound and optional text-to-speech readout, and administrators can be set up to manage users. Themes and wallpapers can be customized per user.
It can be installed from source code or deployed with Docker, and runs across Windows, Linux and macOS since it is built on Node.js. Fiora is released under the MIT license, and a VS Code extension and a related project called Tailchat, aimed at Discord- or Slack-style communities, are mentioned as related tools.
