About ArchiveBox

ArchiveBox is a self-hosted application for preserving content from websites. You feed it URLs, browser history, bookmarks or services such as Pocket and Pinboard, and it saves copies in standard formats that other programs can read directly: HTML, PNG, PDF, plain text, JSON, WARC and SQLite, chosen to stay readable for decades.

The project exists because online content disappears or degrades without active effort. Typical uses include keeping copies of bookmarks, preserving evidence for legal cases, backing up photos and media from social and video sites, and saving research papers. It can archive both public and private content while you keep control of your data. It also offers a command line interface, a REST API and webhooks for integrations, and under the hood relies on tools such as wget and Chromium.

ArchiveBox is MIT licensed and written in Python. You can install it with pip on Linux or macOS, or run it through Docker. A quick-start demo and documentation are provided. It suits individuals, journalists, researchers and organizations that want their own internet-archive-style collection.
