About 1Backend

1Backend is a full-stack platform for building distributed applications without setting up infrastructure first. It acts as a framework, proxy and runtime in one: it handles authentication, user accounts, routing for microservices and microfrontends, email and similar plumbing, and it can run and program large language models inside containers. The project is written in Go and aimed at developers who want to ship AI-enabled or conventional apps on their own servers.

Services built on 1Backend register their own user accounts and credentials, announce their instance address to the server, and are then reachable through the 1Backend server under a slug. Endpoints are language-agnostic, and a Go SDK is available. The platform also deploys microfrontends alongside services, describes itself as zero-trust and zero-config, and includes its own ORM so development can proceed even without a database.

1Backend is multitenant, so several apps or sites can run on a single install. The easiest way to start the server is with Docker, and the repository includes examples and documentation for building a first service. It is licensed under AGPL-3.0, which matters if you plan to offer a modified version as a network service.
