About TrailBase

TrailBase is a backend platform packaged as one executable, aimed at developers who want something simpler to run than a collection of services. It positions itself as a Firebase alternative and provides type-safe REST and realtime APIs, authentication, an admin UI, and a WebAssembly runtime for extending the backend.

It is built on Rust, the Wasmtime runtime and SQLite, with experimental support for Postgres, and the authors emphasize very low latency so that dedicated caches are less necessary. Other capabilities named in the README and description include multi-database support, geospatial support, server-side rendering and an MCP interface. An online demo and a FAQ are provided on the project website.

TrailBase is licensed under OSL-3.0 and is designed to be easy to self-host, whether for mobile, web or desktop applications. It suits solo developers and small teams who want an integrated backend with few moving parts.
