About Sunmao UI

Sunmao is a frontend framework specifically for building low-code tools, rather than being a finished low-code product itself. It is aimed at engineering teams who want to turn their own existing UI component library into a low-code platform, similar in spirit to tools like Appsmith or Retool, while retaining control over the components and design system used.

It uses a reactive rendering approach the project describes as intuitive and quick to learn, and ships with a built-in GUI editor that covers most of what a complete low-code editor needs. Both the component library layer and the editor itself support custom extensions, so developers can register new components to fit their application's needs while continuing to use an existing visual design system. The framework is built heavily on TypeScript and JSON Schema to provide type safety both when developing Sunmao components and when using the editor.

Sunmao distinguishes two user roles: developers, who write code to build and encapsulate UI components into Sunmao components, and end users, who assemble applications visually using those components without writing code. It is released under the Apache-2.0 license, with an official website editor and a starter kit template available for trying it directly.
