About Proton Drive
Proton Drive is a cloud storage service from Proton, based in Switzerland. Files and photos are protected with end-to-end encryption, so they can be backed up online, opened from different devices and shared with other people without the provider being able to read the contents. A free plan is available.
The service covers private file storage, photo backup, secure sharing and sending large files. It includes online editors for documents and spreadsheets, plus small tools such as image and PDF watermarking. Apps exist for iOS, Android, Windows and macOS, along with a web app and a command line client. Proton publishes guides for moving from Google Drive, Docs, Sheets and Photos, and business guides for OneDrive, Word, Excel and WeTransfer.
Proton Drive is a hosted commercial product with a free tier and paid personal and business plans. It is part of the Proton suite alongside Mail, VPN and Pass, and it is cloud-only rather than self-hosted.
