About Maptoposter Online

Maptoposter Online is a web app for turning the street map of a city you care about into a designed poster. It is a browser-based upgrade of the earlier maptoposter command-line tool written in Python, so nothing needs to be installed: you open the site, choose a city, adjust the look, and download the result. The project is open source under the MIT license.

Rendering is handled by a Rust engine compiled to WebAssembly, with a live preview so you can check the poster before exporting. Twenty built-in themes range from minimal Nordic palettes to neon and vintage nautical styles, and the colors of the background, roads, water, green spaces, points of interest and text can all be tuned by hand. You can also search for places, save your own points of interest and have them drawn as pushpins on the exported poster.

Posters can be exported as A4 in portrait or landscape, square, phone wallpaper or desktop 16:9 formats at 300 DPI for print-quality output. The interface is available in several languages, and the README gallery shows examples from cities across Asia, Europe, the Americas, Africa and Oceania. The front end is built with TypeScript, React and Tailwind CSS.
