JARVIS on Messenger

JARVIS on Messenger is a Python-based chatbot built for Facebook Messenger, created when the Messenger Send/Receive API first made bots possible on the platform. It is aimed at everyday users who want quick answers to common requests through Messenger, and at Python developers who want an approachable, module-based open-source project to contribute to.

Its stated goals were twofold: provide a useful set of both fun and practical features, and keep the codebase simple enough that anyone with reasonable Python knowledge could contribute a new module, explicitly aiming to lower the barrier to a first open-source contribution. Modules cover things like anime and book lookups, currency conversion, dictionary definitions, jokes, song lyrics, movie plots, music search, news headlines, ping checks, quotes, time zone lookups, URL shortening and expansion, video search, and weather, each powered by a specific third-party API with attribution.

JARVIS on Messenger is written in Python and released under the MIT license, and is used directly through its Messenger bot page rather than being self-hosted by end users, though the source is open for anyone who wants to run their own instance or contribute a module.
