Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account?

No. Search, filters, tool pages and alternatives pages are all public. You only need an account to submit a tool or claim a listing, at app.enlisted.directory.

How do tools get listed?

Open-source tools are found on GitHub and listed once they clear a bar: at least 200 stars, a project website and a clear category. Awesome-lists, tutorials and SDKs are filtered out. SaaS products are added from their vendors’ websites and linked to the open-source tools that replace them.

How are tools ranked?

Lists are ordered by a score built from GitHub stars, star growth over the last 30 days and how recently the code changed; searches add text relevance on top. Nobody can pay to move up. The homepage directory also leads with a few hand-picked tools, including products made by the Enlisted team.

What counts as an “alternative”?

A tool is listed as an alternative when it does the same core job as a better-known product, usually because its own README or website says so (“an open-source alternative to Notion”). Each alternatives page ranks them by stars, growth and recent activity.

How fresh is the data?

GitHub stats (stars, 30-day growth, last commit, latest release) sync every day. Screenshots, pricing notes and features are refreshed from vendor websites in rolling batches, and every tool page shows when its data was last refreshed.

Can I self-host these tools?

Most open-source ones, yes. Tool pages say whether a self-hosted version exists and link straight to the project's repository, where its install guide lives.

Do you list SaaS tools too?

Yes. Open-source and SaaS tools are listed side by side, so you can put a SaaS product next to the open-source tools that replace it and compare licence, self-hosting, pricing and activity.

Can I submit my tool?

Yes. Sign in at app.enlisted.directory and submit it. Listings are free and every submission is reviewed by a person. If your product is already listed, claim it there: an email at the product’s domain, a DNS record or a meta tag proves you run it, and the listing gets a verified-owner badge.
